Rob joined de Villars Jones in 2024. His current practice focuses primarily on wills and estates matters, including estate planning and administration.
Prior to joining de Villars Jones, Rob worked for several years in the areas of constitutional law, trust law, and labour law. Rob’s experience in mediations, arbitrations, and litigation has provided him with a keen sense of how adept legal drafting and advice can assist clients in avoiding legal issues and unnecessary disputes before they arise. His experience has also provided him with an equally keen sense of whether and when proceeding to litigation is in a client’s best interests.
Rob grew up in Edmonton and completed his undergraduate studies in political science at the University of Alberta. He then obtained his PhD in Government at the University of Texas at Austin and studied law at Stanford Law School. In 2014, Rob returned to Canada to practice law. Since his return to Canada, Rob’s work has included articling at the City of Toronto, serving as a program lawyer and director at the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, and working as an associate at a leading labour law firm in Vancouver.
Rob also has several years of experience as a legal educator. He has worked as a university instructor prior to law school and has since led lectures and seminars on a wide range of legal issues in high schools, universities, and law schools, as well as at community events. In the 2024 – 2025 academic year, he is teaching Constitutional Law and Remedies as a sessional instructor at the University of Alberta, Faculty of Law.
Rob spends much of his spare time reading and watching films, sometimes as a way to supplement his various attempts at language learning. He also enjoys cooking and is an on-again, off-again runner.
